The Pinnacle of Absurdity

Just when we think we’ve reached the pinnacle of absurdity in our country, another news item raises the bizarre ceiling.

If you’re like me, you’ve said one or all of the following statements many times over the past year.

  • That’s ridiculous!
  • I can’t believe what’s happening in our country!
  • They can’t do that, can they?

It does seem as if the “crazies” are gaining ground over any sense and sensibility, doesn’t it? You may wonder how this could have happened. So do I.

Perhaps it’s because some of those in power are doing everything they can to eliminate not only God, but the influence of biblical values in our society. As a result, we may live to see the downfall of everything from our freedom to our strength as a nation.

Regardless of our many varied religions and philosophies, I believe there is a reason for this. Over the years, I’ve noticed with admiration how some non-Christians lead good lives with healthy marriages.

This was a puzzle to me. I find it difficult enough to maintain my faith and a healthy marriage with help from God. How do people thrive without Christ? As I observed these people more closely, I knew the answer. Without realizing it, there are people who have chosen to live their lives according to biblical values.

Whether God gets the credit or not, biblical values work. The truth is God loves every human being unconditionally, whether we acknowledge Him or not. And His desire is to have a personal relationship with each one of us. However God is a gentleman; He will not force Himself upon anyone. But He will woo us to Himself any way His providence allows.

For example, I believe God gives those He loves the freedom to choose biblical values even while rejecting a personal relationship with Him. This is a sweet but even more bitter reality. Yes, biblical values can help to build a healthy marriage and a successful life. But apart from God, the results of self-effort are temporary and less than foolproof.

However, when our relationship with God drives our values, we can be certain we have everything we need to live a God-centered life with all the benefits and blessings He has for us in this lifetime, as well as the one beyond. (II Peter 1:3)

Biblical values not only work; they preserve our dignity. But they also protect us from the immorality and absurdity that threatens our very existence as a country blessed by God.

Sadly, God’s Book is being attacked more than any other time in American history. According to The American Library Association, the Bible has recently joined the list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Library Books. Why was God’s Book challenged? Religious viewpoint was the only reason given.

It makes you wonder how long it will be before the Bible is removed from libraries all across our land. The Pinnacle of Absurdity, isn’t it? Banning the Word of God, the Pinnacle of Knowledge, Wisdom and God’s Love. Scary, isn’t it?

God Bless America

Surely, there are practical ways we can help to turn the tide from absurdity to a more God-centered America. Do you have any suggestions? Let’s make a list together; I’ll begin:

#1. PRAY, SEEK HIS FACE AND REPENT OF OUR OWN SINS – (II Chronicles 7:14)

(Please add your suggestion to the list, and I’ll compile the answers and share the list with you.)

So true, Mom! Makes me think of the movie, The Book of Eli, did you ever see that? It’s a good movie that hits on what your article is about in two ways, a society that has lost the Bible and a society that thinks just living by its values is the ticket, w/o knowing the Author personally.

    • Thanks sweet daughter for your comment. Yes, I saw the movie and your observation is an insightful one. I shudder to think what it would be like to be without God’s living Word and I pray our society will come to its spiritual senses and protect our biblical values.
