Chocolate Turtle Cake

This afternoon, our neighbor Kathy brought us two pieces of this yummy cake. It’s very rich but delicious. And it’s simple to make. Try it; everyone will love it.

Homemade Chocolate Turtle Cake

  • 2 cups chocolate chips (divided)
  • 2 cups pecan halves (divided)
  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz.) bag of caramels
  • 1 (18 oz.) box German Chocolate Cake mix
  • 1 1/3 cup water (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1/3 cup oil (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 3 eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)

Use directions on box to prepare cake mix. Grease or spray bottom of 9×13 pan. Pour ½ cake mix batter into pan. Bake 350 degrees about 15 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Combine caramels, milk and butter in double boiler. Stir constantly until melted but not enough to get hard.

Pour ½ melted caramel over cooking cake. Sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup pecans on top.

Pour remaining batter on top and bake 20 minutes.

Pour rest of caramel on cooling cake. Sprinkle rest of chocolate chips and pecans on top.
