In last week’s post, we talked about God’s plan to take us to glory. (On Our Way to Glory – Things to Do) The truth of the plan is simple enough for a child to understand. But it’s also profound enough to capture the minds of the wisest of men.
According to Unger’s Bible Dictionary, the word glory is the manifestation of God’s divine attributes. According to John 1: 14, Jesus is the physical manifestation of the glory of the Godhead.
But the Word was made flesh, and dwelt in us, and we saw His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Simple, yet profound, isn’t it? Through His WORD, God the FATHER introduces us to Jesus, His SON. When we receive His SON, we receive God’s gift of forgiveness and eternal life. And that sets us on the path of glory. It’s called salvation.
Once we’re on the glory path, the HOLY SPIRIT paves our way by working everything in our lives to make us more like Jesus. That’s called sanctification.
In other words, glory is a place where Jesus shines! He shines through God’s Word; He shines through His manhood. Through God’s Spirit, Jesus shines through US. And because of His radiant eternal light, He will shine in heaven forever.
I want to be on that bandwagon, don’t you? God has formed a movement to take us to glory. Last week, we talked about things to do in preparation for heaven. But there’s another wonderful aspect of the glory path. I call this part of His plan multiplication.
God doesn’t want us to go to glory alone. He wants us to bring with us as many people as we can. Therefore, we have people to see and a story to tell. But we also have a life to live that demonstrates God’s love for every person that crosses our path. The amazing thing is that He chooses to reach out to them through us.
God loved the world so much He allowed His Son to die for the sins of every person. He did this so we might see His glory personified and receive His gift personally. Therefore, when we embrace the way to glory movement, we are given the awesome privilege of sharing the good news of the glory of God.
God’s part is to provide the opportunities. Our part is to allow the Holy Spirit to shine the light of Jesus through us. Listen to the words of Jesus as depicted in the contemporary language of The Message.
“. . . You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
Who was the person who introduced the “God-colors” into your world? How did they shine the light of Jesus on your life?
