“Devote yourself to prayer, being watchful and thankful. . . make the most of every opportunity. . . .” Colossians 4:2-6

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”    Edith Lovejoy Pierce

“The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees. He who fritters away the early morning, its opportunity and freshness, in other pursuits than seeking God will make poor headway seeking Him the rest of the day. . .” E. M. Bounds

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential. – Emily Goodman

“By faith, Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8

“You don’t know what you are going to do. The only thing you know is that God knows what He is doing. Continually examine your attitude toward God to see if you are willing to ‘go out’ in every area of your life, trusting in God entirely. It is this attitude that keeps you in constant wonder, because you don’t know what God is going to do next. . . God does not tell you what He is going to do—He reveals to you who He is. . . Let the attitude of your life be a continual willingness to ‘go out’ in dependence upon God, and your life will have a sacred and inexpressible charm about it that is very satisfying to Jesus. . . .” Chambers January 2nd

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:4-5

Just two choices on the shelf, pleasing God or pleasing self.” Ken Collier

“When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.”       Proverbs 16:7

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

  1. That’s quite a compilation, Liz!! I especially liked the last one – sail away from the safe harbor. YES! There is MUCH to see and do, and very little of it is on the dock!
