Best Baked Beans – What’s in a Name?

I’ve tried a number of baked beans recipes. Recently, I made this one and took it to a cook-out. It got rave reviews, so like any devoted friend, I’m passing it on to you. 🙂  It’s Cathy Thrift’s recipe from the Westminster Baptist cookbook, Westminster, SC

     Best Baked Beans        

  • 1 (16 oz.) can pork & beans
  • 1/4 green pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3/4 c. light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 T. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T. honey barbecue sauce
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 4 strips of bacon
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheese

Saute green pepper and onion; combine with remaining ingredients. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Fry bacon. Break and mix with above when bean mixture is done. Cover top with cheese. Return to oven and bake until cheese melts slightly and is barely brown. Serves 6. Enjoy!
