Toll House Pie with Fudge Sauce

My friend Jackie served this dessert, and talk about rave reviews!! Let me know when you make it and I’ll be right over. That is, unless I”m dieting.  Don’t make it on a Monday, for that’s when I always start my diets.

     Toll House Pie

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsifted flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 (6 oz.) package chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 (9″) unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  In large bowl, beat eggs until foamy; beat in flour, sugar and brown sugar until will blended. Blend in melted butter. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour. (Check after 45 minutes.)

Hot Fudge Sauce

  • 1 stick butter
  • 4 squares unsweetened chocolate or 12 tbsp. cocoa
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 large can evaporated milk

Melt butter in top of double boiler; drop in chocolate and stir until melted. Add sugar a little at a time, stirring well until all sugar has been added. Add salt. Slowly stir in evaporated milk. After all milk has been added, let cook over hot water until all the sugar is completely dissolved, stirring constantly. This is also delicious over hot cake or ice cream. It keeps in the fridge for a long time and may be reheated for ice cream.
